BELT PAINTING TUTORIALA Plain Yellow Belt Can Go Any Way You Want It To, Texture And Colorwise. By Michael PaolettiThis process is very simple in terms of execution buta bit tricky in Technique. Thats where practice comesin. It took me awhile to perfect the Items used..Whatpaints and such. I have experience with paints. I hopeyour able to acheive the look you desire. When I started out, My goal wasnt to achieve a moviereplica belt color scheme..It was to totally fool theeye. And make it difficult to tell what the belt ismade of. Is it metal? Hard Plastic?First you must Aquire the right materials. You'll needthree types of paint. Each a tad darker then The next. The Colors I use are BRASS, ANTIQUE GOLD, GOLD AndCOPPER (USE COPPER VERY SPARINGLY)The secret Of the Process is WOOD STAIN, Yes Woodstain..Be sure its WATER BASED. Anything with mineralspirits will over time desolve Latex!!!! You canchoose anything from GOLDEN OAK color for more of abrassish color or use what I did on my ArtseeBelt..ROSEWOOD..and plenty of paper towels. Now that you have the materials..find a comfortablearea to work where you can move your body around thebelt with ease.find a area to With ventilation...Clean the belt..Washit and let it dry..Then paint the stain over a portionof the belt..If you paint more then you can handle thestain will soak in and you will end up with crap. The trick is to paint and dab the excess stainoff..What remains will be a dark rich yellow color andthe cracks will have stain in them..You can do thecracks over to acheive more affect, But i do notrecommend doing the open belt areas again..You have ahard time blending anything then. Do the same over thebelt buckle and dab off the raised highlights untilThe grooves are darker. Change your paper toweloften..Otherwise you'll be re-applying what you justtook off!DO NOT leave the stain setting to much..The belt issomewhat pourous..The longer you leave it the darkerit'll be..your timed! Its stressful! do this over theentire belt until you acheve the look that suitsyou..Remember, let some of the original yellow comethrough..It'll enhance the look later when you applythe brass paints. The brass paints I used are simply found at a craftstore..I Avoid rustolym brand and Krylon..Use Craftspray paint. Your ready to paint the belt now. Paint ilightly! Start with your darker paints and work to theLighter...Dont COAT the belt, Mist it. And spary froman angle so the spray catches all the highlights andangles..After all your brass paints have been put on usecopper ONCE and lightly from about 4-3 feetaway...Your Done..Leave your belt overnight and yourread to go!!
