How To Make A TDK Cowl Out Of A Begins Cowl.

It is very simple to create a makeshift Dark Knight cowl from a Begins cowl. I took the time to do it to show you.

Take a typical Begins style cowl of any origin.

Carefully cut it in half at the appropriate, or self chosen spot. Trim neatly and refine until to your liking.

To me it is amazing no one has done this yet it is so simple. I love simplicity. As long as it works. It works best when it is thick and there is some meat to it, also it will hold its shape.

Roughly draw guidelines on front and back of the Begins cowl neck after putting some baby powder on it first for clarity and lack of stickiness so the marker works better. Design this how you like, but get it generally close to the look and lines/ feel of the TDK cowl. Don't go too thin in any one area.

Cut carefully along the guidelines referring often to thicknesses and symmetry. Use the excess you cut off to make the raised flap part for the back and cut that out as well. When you have cut as well as you can you can dremmel the edges and lines smoother if you want.

Use Contact Cement, Dap, or Goop brand glue to join the upper layer to the lower layer in the back. I left a little extra in the middle but that is just the way I did it. You can do it as you like. If you want the neck to be thinner or have a zipper or other type of closure do this first by taking out an inch or too in the back before adding the upper flaps over the area. You can even create a flap to hide the zipper or other velcro attachment device if you like. For this demonstration I kept the neck thickness as is and that is perfectly acceptable if you deem it so. It is all up to you. if you want a narrower neck you will have to take out a few inches in back and rejoin together with closer method. I do not recommend having no closure method if you go smaller and only using super glue because the stress of getting it over your head even with K-Y Jelly is too great and may cause it to separate at the seam.

Clean it up, finalize the details, paint it up, and there you have it folks. You could do this with just about any cowl you have I would think. To the casual observer they will never suspect what you have done and think you have the real article or close to it. In the end the impression you make on the public that you meet is the biggest thing and only you will know it is not 100% accurate. They are gonna welcome you by screaming, "The Dark Knight" You will also know it didn't cost you much to achieve the look you needed and you can keep that to yourself too.

Have fun. Look the part.
